The Conservative leader of the opposition on Three Rivers District Council (TRDC) has accused the council of having “fundamentally failed” after they admitted to not applying for grant concerning electric vehicles.
According to councillor Ciaran Reed, under questioning at a meeting on Monday, September 12, TRDC admitted to having not applied for an Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles (OZEV) grant earlier this year.
This grant would have supplied funds for electric vehicle charging points around the district, with £10 million available through it.
Now instead, Cllr Reed states, the council is looking at using local infrastructure funds to pay for new electric points.
Cllr Reed said: “Despite the district council claiming to be pro-environment and green policies, they failed to have put enough working into their electric charging plans to be in a position to apply for the grant.
“They have fundamentally failed to provide good value for money on this for residents as a result of failing to even apply for a national government grant for electric charging vehicles.
“Also, the lack of progress that had been made on electric charging vehicles demonstrates that they are not as advanced on environmental issues we would want them to be.”
TRDC and Leader of the Lib Dem Council, Cllr Sarah Nelmes, have both been contacted for comment.
