EDEN PROJECT: Pinner school takes part in an international sustainability collaboration

Published on: 9th July 2021   |   By: Lizzie Ellis   |   Category: Uncategorized

West Lodge Primary School in Pinner is one of many to have taken part in a ground-breaking international collaboration called Eden Project Changemakers.

The project is a pioneering sustainability leadership programme, designed to prepare schools for the vital role of bringing regenerative change for sustainability to their school community, themselves and the planet.

Mrs Aldrich, Outdoor Learning and Reception Year Group Leader, has led the project at West Lodge and has been sharing ideas and learning alongside schools from across the globe including Cornwall, Bristol, London, Australia, Germany and Norway.

The project has been focused on developing skills for creating and leading change in schools, set within a sustainability context, in addition to developing capacity and a practical toolkit to shape a sustainable school.

West Lodge has looked at several ways to become a more sustainable school. During the summer term, the school has held two community gardening days where parents, staff and children have worked together to improve the environment and improve biodiversity.

The school has also been in discussion with Harrow to try and help the school building to become carbon neutral by 2030.

This includes updating some of the lighting to become more energy-efficient, adding cavity wall insulation to the walls and investigating the possibility of solar panels on the roof.
