A Northwood fencer and a Ruislip dancer are among six people to have won an award from Hillingdon Council, designed to help promising young people pursue their dreams.
Casey Jones, 15, is a talented fencer who is currently the number one ranked player for his age group in the country, having taken part in many national and international tournaments, including this year’s Fencing Commonwealth Championships.
As the winner of a Tashan Daniel Award, he’s received £2,000 which will help him pay for fencing equipment, as well as other expenses associated with competing.
Another recipient was 15-year-old Grace Dowling from Ruislip. She has been dancing since she was three, and was awarded £850 to go towards her training, clothing and dance equipment for upcoming competitions and examinations.
The Tashan Daniel Awards were founded after the tragic death of talented young photographer and athlete Tashan Daniel, a 20-year-old local resident who was murdered in an unprovoked attack at Hillingdon Tube station in 2019.
Since then, 15 young residents have received the award to support their educational, sporting and cultural aspirations.
This year’s candidates were selected by a committee including Tashan’s father Chandy, councillor Jane Palmer, and the council’s sport and physical activity manager Priscilla Simpson.
