A man who was driving the wrong way along the M1 has been jailed after causing a serious collision while under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
The 32-year-old joined the motorway at Junction 5, just below Meriden, and travelled for almost a mile before colliding head-on with a BMW and motorbike.
At impact, Luton resident Keith Muromba was passing adjacent to central Garston in his white Renault box van.
The 46-year-old motorcyclist sustained life-changing injuries, including a broken neck, and has been unable to return to work. The 31-year-old BMW driver sustained minor injuries. Muromba suffered his own injuries and spent 10 days in hospital. He had no driving insurance.
Herts Police Detective Constable Boris Kahn said: “This had devastating consequences. Muromba’s actions showed a complete disregard for the safety of others.”
This incident occurred in January, and he pleaded guilty to all offences at St Albans Crown Court on September 24. He was sentenced to three years in prison and disqualified from driving for 66 months.
