Two teachers from Garston were nominated by a local MP to attend a recent reception at No. 10 Downing Street.

Michael Jones, headteacher of Parmiter’s School, and Cheska Tyler, from Cherry Tree Primary School, were recognised as education champions at the reception on March 12 after being nominated by Dean Russell, MP for Watford. The event was hosted by Damian Hinds MP, Minister of State for Schools, and celebrated teachers who have made outstanding contributions to their schools.

Mr Russell MP used this opportunity to recognise and thank the hardworking school staff in his constituency for their exceptional efforts in providing opportunities for pupils.

Following the event, Mr Russell MP said: “I was delighted to nominate Cheska and Michael as community education champions. They have both shown exceptional dedication to their schools, and I was pleased to introduce them to the Minister who also thanked them for their hard work. The event showcased the really great impact that education leaders make on schools and communities, and this was reflected across the UK.”

Michael told the MP: ‘‘Thank you for your kind invitation to join you and Damian Hinds MP at 10 Downing Street, and to accompany you on a tour of Parliament afterwards. It was such a great opportunity to see British politics in action, as well as network and discuss the challenges we are all facing in Watford around children with special educational needs in mainstream schools. I am also really grateful for your putting leaders from the secondary and primary sectors together.”
