HOT WHEELS: Motorbikes to take over Tring for charity fundraising ride

Published on: 28th April 2024   |   By: Panayiota Demosthenous   |   Category: Uncategorized

Tring residents should not be alarmed if they see a gang of bikers riding through the town later this month.

On May 19, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) is heading to Tring for the first time. Bikers from the town and beyond will be riding through the streets to raise money for charity.

Founded in Sydney, Australia, the annual event includes 902 rides, 103 countries and hundreds of thousands of riders from across the world, all cycling in their local areas in order to raise money Movember. The funds will help to raise awareness of men’s mental health and prostate cancer research.

Speaking to TRINGnews, DGR Tring organiser Steve Hamilton said: “I’ve been riding since my teens, so I must be knocking on nearly 50 years. Things were different in the 70s; back then, it was such an exciting time!”

Steve, who is part of the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club (VJMC), will be taking part in the ride along with Mayor of Tring councillor Nigel Nutkins and biking influencer BikerKaz.

The event will start and end at The Red Lion in Marsworth, with the group riding through Tring High Street and Berkhamsted High Street along a 22-mile route. DGR encourages participants to dress in their best, so all will don their tweed for the event.

Steve continued: “I’m very excited and can’t wait! It’s going to be a really good event, and hopefully we will make a bit of a mark and encourage people in the area to get involved.”

Mayor Nutkins, who is also part of VJMC, said: “I knew about it and I was considering it, and as Mayor, it would be an ideal fundraiser for me. We often raise money for local organisations, and we do that on a daily basis, but this is something a little bigger. I didn’t need much persuading!”

Since it was founded in 2012, DGR has raised a total of $45million.
