DOUBLE VICTORY: Restaurant group with branch in St Albans wins national award for the second year running

The popular Hertfordshire restaurant group Lussmanns has won a national industry award celebrating sustainability for the second year in a row.

Lussmanns Sustainable Fish & Grill, which has five restaurants in Hertfordshire including the St Albans flagship branch in the shadow of the Cathedral, has been awarded the prestigious Menu of the Year 2020 award at the UK’s Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) annual Sustainable Seafood Forum and Awards.

The award recognises restaurant menus that have created new and exciting sustainable seafood offerings to UK diners while helping to advance consumer awareness about the MSC. Lussmanns also won this award last year.

Lussmanns works closely with its supplier Stickleback Fish Company to create a menu that for the past two years has been between 90 and 100% MSC credited.

Andrei Lussmann, Managing Director and founder of Lussmanns said: “On behalf of myself and all of my team, I’d like to say a huge thank you. It’s wonderful to receive this award again and goes a long way towards justifying all the very hard work that goes into creating a menu like ours.

“We have been doing fish, pretty well, for 20 years and the ecology of our oceans is more of a pressing issue now that it has ever been. It is so important that we look after our oceans and the life within them, so that we continue to have seas that are full of fish, and, in a wider sense, do everything we can to protect our planet.

“Buying from fisheries that have been certified with the MSC blue tick goes some way towards that goal and Lussmanns is determined to continue to ensure MSC is a very big part of our menu going forward.”
