HUNDREDS RAISED: Online training sessions helping fund Northwood charity

Published on: 5th October 2020   |   By: Jake Levison   |   Category: Uncategorized

Exercise classes for older people in Northwood have gone online, with one helping to raise funds for the charity behind MHA Communities – Northwood.

Formerly known as MHA Northwood Live at Home, the scheme provides a range of activities for its members to help alleviate loneliness and isolation among older people who live independently in their own home.

Due to COVID-19, activities have moved online, including three virtual exercise classes.

Personal trainer Kimberley Cleminson (pictured) wanted to raise money for a local charity by holding an online exercise class and chose MHA Communities – Northwood.

Lots of Kimberley’s clients and many more local families joined in the fun and raised a fantastic £845 for the scheme.

Laura Waller, from MHA Communities – Northwood, said: “The money raised will go a long way to helping us continue in our mission to combat loneliness and isolation among older people who live in their local community. In these challenging times we have had to change the way we support our members.

“Usually our members would take part in activities such as outings and exercise and craft activities. Instead the service, run by older person’s charity Methodist Homes (MHA) has increased its already popular befriending services and run three virtual Exercises classes every week.

“The scheme receives some funding from MHA centrally and Hillingdon Council but still relies heavily on the local community for support especially in current times when it can’t carry out traditional fundraising activities. A huge thank you from all of us to Kimberley and everyone that joined in and showed that great things can be done when local communities come together.”
