DONOR DRIVE: Radlett resident delivers donated cars to help on front line in Ukraine

Published on: 10th September 2024   |   By: Nik Allen   |   Category: Uncategorized

A Radlett man recently joined a convoy of people providing vehicles to help on the front line of the war in Ukraine.

Duncan Harvey and his brother drove four cars to Lviv, a western city close to the border with Poland, from July 16 to 20. His brother has made three similar trips on previous occasions.

As part of the Car For Ukraine initiative, 4x4s and SUVs that are not compliant with the Ultra Low Emission Zone or have very high road tax are being donated to help out in the war effort.

The cars are now being refitted, ready to be sent to the front line to provide safe and reliable transport for soldiers.

Speaking to Radlett News about his experiences, Duncan said: “Lviv is utterly beautiful. I had a lovely walking tour and met some amazing Ukrainian people while I was there.

“They told us some harrowing stories, but they continued to smile through it all.

“There was also an assassination in the city at one point, but we didn’t experience anything ourselves.

“The people of Ukraine have been amazing. My efforts were only small, but it does make me feel connected to them. I’m glad to have done my bit.”
