Published on: 8th February 2024   |   By: News Bulletin   |   Category: Uncategorized

A new regular comedy night at Watford Pump House will feature the best in up-and-coming comedy.

After a few warm-up gigs at the end of last year, the first of the regular Comedy Night will take place on February 10. The line-up includes comedians with CVs brimming with TV and radio accolades along with numerous awards.

David Ward has supported a number of major TV stand-up comedians on tour, including Lee Hurst and Tom Stade. He is also in demand for his TV warm-up work and has performed for the troops in Kuwait and the UAE. His spontaneity made him the choice host for the heats of the BBC’s New Comedy Awards and Channel 5’s So You Think You’re Funny?.

Julian Deane is widely celebrated for his ingenious punchlines and was named Best New Comedian by the Comedy Café in London and won the ITV Stand Up Hero and the Laughing Horse New Act of the Year competitions. Julian has appeared on The Russell Howard Hour (Sky One) and supported Paul Chowdhry on a world tour, which included Wembley Arena.

Multi award-winning James Ellis is one of the best acts on the circuit who has supported the likes of Sean Walsh and Angela Barnes on tours and is a regular writer for BBC Radio’s Newsjack.

Markus Birdman is one of British comedy’s most experienced and well-travelled performers, he’s a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe with 11 solo shows to his credit and headliner status at all the top clubs, including The Comedy Store, The Komedia, Hot Water, The Stand and Soho Theatre.

Malinda Mukuma is New Comedy Awards 2023 semi-finalist who is hotly tipped as one to watch.

Jim Howarth, from promoter Comedy Hotspot which puts the shows together, said: “With everything going on in the world at the minute, we could all do with a laugh. But it felt like Watford was missing a regular stand-up night where local audiences could get great value entertainment from some of the best in the business. So we’re delighted to partner with the Pump House and put on a regular Comedy Night – we look forward to welcoming audiences through the door for memorable nights of laughter.”

The next comedy nights will take place on April 5, June 8, October 5, and November 30.
