The annual Rotary in St Albans Swimathon is returning this year to raise money for a new sensory play area in St Albans City Hospital.
Registration is now open for the swimathon, which will take place at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre from 6pm on Saturday, April 26.
The free event welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities, whether as teams or individuals. Each swimmer will be given a 20-minute slot.
The swimathon is aiming to raise £12,000 for the hospital’s outpatient sensory play area.
Alison Rosen, CEO of West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “Creating sensory play areas is about more than entertainment – it’s about reducing anxiety, encouraging learning through play, and showing our youngest patients and their families that we care.”
The new sensory-focused play area will provide entertainment for children, leading to a calmer atmosphere in the waiting area, and will also include creative and engaging toys.
