Members of the Friends of Roxbourne Park group have spoken out after finding trees in a Pinner park completely stripped of fruit.
The group has spent four years preparing and nurturing the Community Orchard in Roxbourne Park, and this year was the first time that there was a good crop on the 17 trees.
However, despite a notice inviting people to take only one or two apples or plums, somebody stripped every fruit from the branches during the week commencing Monday, August 28.
Secretary of the group Gerry Bloomfield said: “It is so disheartening that a community enterprise like this can be destroyed by anti-social behaviour. We have dug the soil, planted the trees, weeded and sown wildflowers to attract pollinators, and watered and mulched regularly, and now there is nothing to show for our efforts.
“Shame on those who are selfish and disrespectful! Without doubt, we will continue doing the gardening for the community, by the community, and hope for better things to come.”
