DENTAL DILEMMA: Campaign launched for free dental care for epileptic patients

Published on: 9th September 2023   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Epilepsy Society, based in Chalfont St Peter, is calling for the NHS to provide free dental repairs for those whose teeth have been damaged during seizures.

The society has launched the campaign because they believe that people with epilepsy who have damaged teeth due to seizures should not have to pay large sums of money for repairs.

A staggering 58 per cent of people with epilepsy who responded to a recent survey have faced dental repair costs they could not afford.

This startling data has galvanised the society into action by establishing the FixIt4Free campaign.

The society has already been in discussion with the team of the Chief Dental Officer for England, representatives from the Department of Health and Social Care, MPs and leading members of the Scottish Parliament. For the campaign to be successful, the society needs to lobby senior politicians and decision-makers, while also building a grassroots movement.

If you support the #FixIt4Free campaign, you can write to your local MP and use the hashtag on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, or get in touch via campaigns@epilepsysociety.org.uk
