The front counter at Hayes Police Station is the latest to face closure in Hillingdon, under plans set out by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.
This follows on from the closure of Uxbridge Police Station two years ago. If the plans go ahead, Northwood and Ruislip residents would need to travel to Acton or Hounslow to access a front counter at a police station.
Councillor Ian Edwards, Leader of Hillingdon Council, is urging the Mayor of London to reverse the planned closure.
Cllr Edwards said: “I will be writing to the Mayor asking him to reconsider… I know the police don’t want this. I know this is a consequence of funding decisions, that the Mayor is responsible for, and I will be challenging him on those decisions.”
The council says that the move, along with previous closures in the borough, would leave residents without access to face-to-face police services.
Hillingdon Conservatives said in a statement: “Sadiq Khan’s plans to close the front counter at Hayes Police Station are a direct attack on Outer London communities like ours. Hillingdon Conservatives strongly oppose these proposals and call for them to be scrapped immediately.”
David Simmonds CBE, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, recently spoke about the closure with Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall and Superintendent Priya Shome from the West Area Borough Command Unit. He raised his concerns about the closure, which he said was “unacceptable”.
He added: “We also discussed how local police teams are tackling the crimes that are concerning residents, such as retail crime and anti-social behaviour, and I was pleased to hear that progress is being made.”
The Metropolitan Police West Area Borough Command Unit has been contacted for comment.
