DERBY DAY: Chalfonts see off Northwood in festive derby

Published on: 27th December 2019   |   By: Geraint Roberts   |   Category: Chalfont St Peter A.F.C

Chalfonts St Peter beat Northwood 2-0 in the local derby after goals in each half from Owen James and Dan Williams.

Luke Illsley had Chalfonts’ first opportunity of the game when he found space from around 25 yards out, but he dragged his shot just wide of the mark.

A free kick was awarded just ten minutes later and James took the opportunity brilliantly, curling the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Northwood were almost gifted an equalizer moments before the half time whistle was blown when a back-pass almost found the net, but Chalfonts were spared their blushes.

The Woods improved in the second half, with chances coming for both Tyrone Pink and Gabriel Piorkowski, but neither could get the equalising goal.

Chalfonts took advantage just moments later when a slip up at the back allowed Williams to go through on goal and he took the chance brilliantly to double the lead.

There was no comeback from Northwood, meaning Chalfonts were the victors on derby day, leaving them three points behind the play-off places.

Chalfonts are at home to Marlow this Saturday whilst Northwood have a trip to Bracknell Town.
