An inspirational grandma, who has defied the odds and returned to running despite health issues, has completed her 250th parkrun and is now taking on a charity challenge.
Sue Johns, 67, who lives in Northwood Hills, was diagnosed with stage four cancer less than a year ago, but through determination and incredible support from the NHS, she has been able to return to running.
Sue first took up running back in 2017 using the Couch to 5k programme. She had 239 runs under her belt when she became unwell and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year.
Despite this, on Saturday, August 2, she ran her 250th parkrun at Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
Sue is now taking on the Ovar-Dressed charity challenge on Sunday, October 19, to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer. She has already smashed her £100 fundraising target, having raised £827 at the time of writing.
Sue said on her fundraising page: “Target Ovarian Cancer target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives – that means symptom awareness, early diagnosis, better treatments and support. Please support my fundraising, and together we’ll transform the future for everyone diagnosed with ovarian cancer.”
