Following the article on the cover of last month’s RICKYnews, residents have been in touch to share their views on proposed rules requiring dogs to be kept on leads in Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
Three Rivers District Council initially voted to extend the Aquadrome’s Public Spaces Protection Order, meaning dogs would not be permitted to be off-lead at the park. However, following public backlash, the council decided to postpone the changes pending further review.
Two residents who have lived in Rickmansworth for 45 years wrote to RICKYnews to share their dismay.
Cathy and Roger Kimber said: “We have never come across a vicious dog or an irresponsible owner. Dogs in the Aquadrome interact with each other and enjoy their freedom. There are never any issues.
“Dogs around the café area should be on the lead, but I can’t see any valid reason why we should keep them tied up in any other area.”
However, fellow resident Luana Avagliano argues that there are frequent issues with off-lead dogs.
Luana told RICKYnews: “As a guide dog owner, I do not use the Aquadrome due to the number of off-lead dogs not properly under the control of their owners. I have friends that have witnessed dog-on-dog attacks in the Aquadrome and although they have not resulted in serious injury, I cannot risk putting my dog and I in that situation.”
