Girlguiding Radlett have installed another new defibrillator outside St John’s Church Hall, thanks to a helping hand from London Hearts.
Half the funds raised came from Verity McLauchlan, who asks those participating in her first aid courses to put forward a donation towards providing life-saving infrastructure for Radlett. The other half came from defibrillator charity London Hearts, who agreed to match existing funds.
By delivering a dose of electric current, defibrillators help to get the heart repumping blood around the body following a heart attack. When you call 999, officers will give a code to unlock the external box where the defibrillator is kept and instruct you on how to use the device.
Defibrillators are dotted around the village, with some accessible 24/7 and others only within opening hours. In Radlett and Aldenham, the life-saving machines are ready for use 24/7 outside The Phillimore Centre, Aldenham Social Club, The Three Horseshoes pub and Porters Park Golf Club. In Shenley, defibrillators are installed at The Hub, Gristwood and Toms, and The Chapel.
If your club or business would like to make your defibrillator available 24/7, please contact Girlguiding Radlett via email at radlettdistrict@girlguidinghertfordshire.org.uk and they will fundraise to buy an outside box for your defibrillator.
Girlguiding Radlett is run by local volunteers. If you’re interested in volunteering, please get in touch via the email address above.
