Two men have been sentenced in connection with shoplifting offences in Watford.

Officers received a report on Thursday, May 30, that a man had entered Next in the Atria shopping centre, selected two gift sets, and exited the shop without making any attempt to pay.

On Sunday, June 2, it was reported that a man had entered Victoria’s Secret and picked up a fragrance set. A member of staff challenged the suspect who then pushed his way out of the shop and left without making any attempt to pay. The member of staff pursued the suspect and recovered the items. The suspect then assaulted the member of staff.

Officers received a report that on Tuesday, June 4, a man entered Boots in the Atria shopping centre and selected a number of items totalling £255.50 and left the shop without making any attempt to pay.

Jordan Clark (pictured), 25, of Charter Place, Watford, was arrested yesterday (Monday, June 10) in connection with the incidents. He was charged with three counts of theft from shops and one count of assault.

Clark appeared before court this morning (Tuesday, June 11) where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment and ordered to pay £50 in compensation.

On Tuesday, June 4, officers also received a separate report that a man had entered Hollister, selected a number of t-shirts and left without making any attempt to pay.

Following proactive enquiries, officers located the suspect and arrested him yesterday afternoon (Monday, June 10).

James Anderson, 37, of Charter Place, Watford, was charged with theft and remanded to appear before court this morning (Tuesday, June 11). He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £234 in compensation.

Inspector Dan Jones, from the Watford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I hope these results provide reassurance to both businesses and residents that we take all reports of theft seriously. This type of behaviour is unacceptable, and we will continue to target this kind of activity. We will carry on working closely with businesses to deter criminals and ensure we continue to have a regular presence in the town centre.”
