An RAF serviceman based in Ruislip swapped the skies for the sea in a fundraising challenge.
Alan Peirce took on a 34km swim of the English Channel on Monday, July 28. He aimed to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund, which offers support for RAF personnel and their families, and Cancer Research UK.
Alan has served in the RAF for 27 years and is currently based at RAF Northolt as a member of the King’s Colour Squadron.
He said: “I was invited as part of a group of serving personnel from the King’s Colour Squadron to attend the fund’s annual awards and I heard a lot of guest speakers tell their stories on how the fund had helped them. I decided I wanted to help raise funds for both charities.”
During his year of training for the challenge, Alan has swum 5km and 10km in pools, as well as completing swims in the River Thames.
Alan has previously completed fundraisers in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund, including four marathons and three 110-mile bike rides over seven days.
