Northwood residents were left horrified after racist graffiti was sprayed onto an electricity box.
A resident, who wishes to remain anonymous but is a member of the BAME community, was left shocked when she spotted the vandalism on Maxwell Road, which read: “White Power, F*** Muslims”.
She told Northwood & Ruislip News: “This was graffitied before the unrest/riots around the country. It’s very worrying for us with our children walking up and down that road. We have been in Northwood for 16-and-a-half years and have never seen such a thing.
“The council painted over the graffiti within hours of residents reporting it on Hillingdon Council’s website. Unfortunately, I have seen that it’s still showing up underneath the paint.”
The resident added that she also reported the vandalism to David Simmonds CBE, MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner, the residents’ association and the Met Police, who informed her they were investigating it as a hate crime.
She also stated the police assured her that patrols of uniformed officers on the road and the surrounding area would be increased.
When contacted for comment, Chief Inspector Ben Wright told Northwood & Ruislip News: “We take all reports of hate crimes and vandalism seriously. Reports are fully investigated to gather evidence and identify those responsible.
“We also collaborate closely with our partners at the local council to ensure that offensive graffiti is removed effectively. In response to the concerns raised about the graffiti starting to show through again, we will follow up with the council to ensure it is fully and permanently addressed.
“Tackling hate crime is a priority, and we are committed to making the area a safer place for everyone.
“As part of the Commissioner’s vision for a safer London, we continue to focus on building stronger community relationships through Local Neighbourhood Policing. We encourage the community to report any further issues, and we will take appropriate action.”
Hillingdon Council has been contacted for comment.
