A Boccia superstar from Pinner who has taken the sport by storm has accomplished yet another fantastic achievement.
Reshad Saraj has been supported by Boccia UK’s Talent Transition Squad. It was revealed on Monday, January 27, that he has now been promoted to the World Class Programme, which is supported by UK Sport, The National Lottery and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Boccia is an indoor Paralympic sport in which athletes throw, kick or use a ramp to propel a ball onto the court.
Speaking to Boccia UK, Reshad said: “When I got the news, it was a big sigh of relief. I have worked so hard for 16 years, together with my coach Sunil Birdy, and now everything is coming into place.”
Reshad has collected numerous awards and accolades and claimed his first international gold medal at the Lahti Challenger in Finland last May.
He said: “I started off at the beginning of 2024 as 43rd in the world, and now I am 19th.
“I’ve trained and competed alongside World Class Programme athletes and just being in that environment has helped me improve and progress.
“I am really looking forward to being with the squad and excited to see what the future holds.”
Reshad will now be able to access first-class coaching as well as support services, including physiotherapy and sports psychology.
