St Albans City FC were defeated 2-1 against Chippenham Town away from home in the Vanarama National League South after two goals in four minutes in the second half.

The Saints initially went ahead in the first half thanks to Tom Bender, but couldn’t hold out for what would have been a massive victory in their relegation battle.

The weather conditions seemed to be struggle for players from both sides as there was a number of misplaced passes and sliced clearances.

In the 40th minute, Tom Bender headed the ball home from Noble’s corner giving The Saints the lead.

After the second half resumed, Solomon Nwabuokei was replaced by Michael Clark for a suspected injury.

Chippenham scored the equaliser on the 74th minute with Parselle turning the ball home after a set-piece was delivered into the box, creating a tense atmosphere in the stadium for the final 15 minutes.

A free kick was awarded to the hosts from around twenty-five yards out, with Twine stepping up and sending the ball over the wall and past the stranded Dean Snedker to give Chippenham the lead.

The Saints rallied for the final 10 minutes and on the 85th minute, Snedker sent a long ball forward for Sundire, but his volley flew over the crossbar.

St Albans were 20 minutes away from what would have been a vital victory, but the bottom of the Vanarama National League South remains as tight as ever.

Dartford are up next for The Saints at home next Saturday, March 7.
