CREATIVE LEARNING: Pupils enjoy new Croxley STEM Innovation Hub

Published on: 1st February 2026   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

From the roar of Formula 1 cars to the hum of 3D printers, a bold new chapter in learning is being written at a Croxley Green school.

York House, a local independent prep school on the outskirts of the village, has officially opened its new STEM Innovation Hub – a purpose-built space designed to inspire collaborative exploration and cross-curricular learning. The hub centralises resources and provides a cutting-edge venue for teaching, workshops, community events and digital conferences, firmly advancing the school’s ambitions for STEM innovation.

Designed for flexibility, the hub supports Apple, Google and Microsoft devices and features extensive storage alongside adaptable indoor and outdoor workspaces. Traditional classroom teaching sits comfortably alongside Maker Spaces and testing areas, blending hands-on craftsmanship with digital technologies to build real-world, vocational skills.

This fusion came alive as Year 4 and Year 8 pupils researched, built and raced wooden Formula 1 cars. Refining aerodynamics, they used 3D design software and programming Microbits to display live performance data.

Head of computing Dave Presky said: “Once our pupils finalised their designs, we hosted our own Formula 1 race day. The excitement from pupils and families was incredible and showcased just how powerful purposeful, creative learning can be.”
