On the eve of the Coronation of King Charles III, in an act of celebration, Hertfordshire County Council brought together volunteers from across Hertfordshire to thank them for their selfless work in supporting the excellent council services we provide to residents.
The Chairman of Hertfordshire County Council hosted a reception for one hundred and twenty volunteers who work to support council staff in delivering a range of services, from cadet firefighters, librarians, and archivists to those who foster and provide support to vulnerable children.
The reception marked the start of a weekend of Coronation celebrations across the county, with the county council approving nearly four hundred street closures for neighbours across the county to come together to celebrate the Coronation.
Speaking at the reception to honour Hertfordshire’s volunteers, chairman of the county council, Councillor Annie Brewster JP said: “With His Majesty making volunteering a priority during his Coronation celebrations, recognising the efforts and hard work of the nation’s remarkable volunteers, I thought it fitting to celebrate those closer to home who day in and day out go above and beyond to support council services and their local communities.
“We are most fortunate to have so many passionate, committed volunteers supporting and, indeed, enhancing the work Hertfordshire County Council carries out for its residents. The County Hall Coronation Reception is the perfect opportunity to celebrate together and to thank our volunteers for their exemplary service to their County.”
One volunteer attending the event Peter White met his wife while volunteering with the Countryside Management Service more than thirty years ago, and has continued his volunteering, promoting conservation across Hertfordshire whilst also carrying out a successful career and raising his own family.
