The Dacorum Young Artists Competition, which featured work from students across 22 schools in the district, was hosted in Berkhamsted last month.
Exhibitors, parents and teachers gathered at Ashlyns School on April 28. A total of 640 entrants submitted to this year’s competition, which is now in its ninth year. Judges selected one piece from each of the 22 schools to display on the day.
The judges included leading local artist Mary Casserley and representative of Open Door Joan Fisher. Guest of honour Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Hertfordshire Jo Connell OBE presented trophies to the Best in School entrants and the Best Overall award.
A spokesperson for Dacorum Young Artists said: “The standard was exceptionally high and the attendance was the best we’ve ever seen.
“The Best Overall, 1st place, was awarded to Leon Habachi of Boxmoor School with his wonderful picture of an owl. Leon was presented with the DYA Cup, an individual trophy and a voucher for £100 to be spent on art materials at Artscape, Harpenden.”
In second place was Cayson Willson of Woodfield School and in third place was Toby Kellett of Berkhamsted School.
