Chorleywood Parish Council is offering residents the chance to help support hedgehogs in and around the village.
Locals can collect free Hedgehog Highways Doors from the Parish Office from 9am to 1pm Monday to Friday, with one available per household.
The doors help to safeguard the endangered prickly creatures, by creating a five-inch gap in fences and walls. The gaps help to grant hedgehogs access to food by making foraging easier, help to facilitate mate encounters and offer the little creatures easier access to nesting sites.
According to the specialist charity Hedgehog Street: “Ensuring hedgehogs can pass freely through your garden is one of the most important things you can do to help them.
“One of the main reasons hedgehogs are struggling in Britain is because our fences and walls are becoming more and more secure, reducing the amount of land available to them.”
