A St Albans resident has been recognised for her efforts throughout the community as part of the 2021 St Stephen Parish Council Community Awards.
Park Street community champion Barbara Vernon was chosen from all those nominated for her outstanding contribution to community life in the parish.
In one of her nominations, a resident said: “She never expects recognition or thanks. She just gets on with it. She simply wants to support people in the community, young and old.”
After witnessing the dedication of residents throughout the pandemic, two special awards for exceptional service to the community were set up, which went to Bricket Wood Food Bank and PSRA chairman and news editor Joy Mendelsohn, who set up a similar food bank in Park Street.
The other annual awards went to Marcy Pateman (Youth), Raj Kularajah of Twinsco (Business) and the Parish Pickers, led by Dennis Cowen (Group).
