‘COMMUNITY SPIRIT’: Inaugural Chalfont St Peter Fringe Festival is a great success

Chalfont St Peter’s inaugural Fringe Festival was a roaring success and introduced residents to new venues, friends and activities.

From June 22 to 29, a variety of volunteer-run events took place across the village, including cricket on the Common, award-winning crime writers in the library, a flower arranging workshop, a music recital, and a teddy bear picnic in the Memorial Garden.

Corrine Mills, a volunteer who helped to organise the event, told CHALFONTS&GERRARDSCROSSnews that the festival “went brilliantly”.

She said: “The Fringe was an experiment – we hoped people would embrace it and they absolutely did. Some people went to venues in the village they had never been to before despite living here.

“A real highlight was the teddy bear picnic. There were lots of families listening to the wind band and children running around. People also opened up their gardens for people to enjoy with a glass of fizz – that was really special.

“There was real community spirit. People got to try out lots of activities and mix with different people.”

The week was capped off by the “biggest day in the Chalfont St Peter calendar”, the Feast Day. With more than 100 stalls and a variety of activities, the day was a great success.
