A football match featuring celebrity players took place in Hemel Hempstead last month to raise funds for a mental health charity.
A number of celebrities from the worlds of TV, radio and professional football laced up their boots for the match at Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s ground on Vauxhall Road on Sunday, May 21.
Hemel Hempstead’s Community Kickabout team took on the charity team Celeb FC, with a final result of 7-2 to Celeb FC, and raised around £700 for Herts Mind Network.
The Celeb FC squad included TV presenter Rob Lamarr, The X Factor finalist Charlie Healy, Gogglebox’s George Gilbey, Big Brother runner-up Akeem Griffith, and The Apprentice contestant Kayode Damali.
The event was part of a series of fundraising events arranged by fitness initiative Community Kickabout throughout May and June in support of Herts Mind Network, a charity delvering essential mental health support in Hertfordshire.
Marc Willmore, an organiser at Community Kickabout, told HEMELnews ahead of the match: “We’re very grateful for the celebrity side for devoting some time and effort to our fundraising game; the celebrity squad features some well-known DJs and TV personalities, as well as some former footballers who will give our team quite a test. It’ll be played in good spirits, with the focus on raising money and promoting awareness of Herts Mind Network for the work they do in our area.”
Community Kickabout’s next charity fundraiser will take place at Hemel Hempstead Town FC’s home ground on June 24. They will take on Lads Speak Out FC, a North Hertfordshire-based team set up to support positive mental health.
