A new sporting phenomenon that’s sweeping the nation will soon be launched in Watford. Watford Borough Council and Watford FC Community Sports and Education Trust hope to get the over-50s back into sport with new – and free – walking football sessions. The weekly Wednesday sessions take place at the Fuller Fitness Centre, Watford Grammar School for Girls, from 6pm to 7pm as part of the Watford Get Active Programme. Walking football is a slower version of the beautiful game with a couple of differences. Kick-ins replace throws, there are no off-sides and anything so much as a jog is prohibited. Elected Mayor of Watford Dorothy Thornhill said: “It’s a brilliant sport. It’s for all levels and abilities and provides a great way to keep fit, rediscover lost footy skills and is great fun to play.”
