WEDDED WONDER: Chorleywood-born dressmaker designs bridal gown for ‘society wedding of the decade’

A woman born in Chorleywood recently designed the wedding dress for the new Duchess of Westminster, for what has been called “the society wedding of the decade”.

The marriage of the Duke of Westminster Hugh Grosvenor to Olivia Henson took place  in Chester on Friday, June 7.

Olivia’s dress was created by Emma Victoria Payne, who grew up in Chorleywood and has since gone on to become of the UK’s most in-demand wedding dress designers since opening her boutique in Knightsbridge in 2010.

Posting on social media, Emma said: “We were thrilled to be commissioned to make this special bespoke bridal gown for Olivia.”

The dress itself is an ambitious piece, constructed with ivory silk satin and embroidered with detailed designs reflecting the veils worn by Olivia’s great-great-grandmothers at their weddings in the late 19th century.

The gown was received positively in the national press, with the Dailly Mirror stating that Olivia “stunned” and Evoke magazine stating that after the wedding, Emma is now “the designer on everyone’s lips”.
