170 people came together to celebrate St Andrew’s Methodist Church’s 50th Anniversary in Bushey on Sunday, September 16.
The Bushey Heath church’s doors first opened on September 14 1968 and to celebrate 50 years later, people travelled from Scotland, Wales and even Australia to represent church congregations that had met throughout those years.
There were a number of notable guests such as Ken Pettit, who chaired the building committee for the church 52 years ago; there were a number of old youth club members and also some guests who had been married at the church many years ago and there were many who were children when they first attended the church, but now as adults they brought their young children along.
The service was led by the current Minister, Revd Richard Lowson and a past Minister Revd Chris Jones and his wife Revd Margaret Jones and afterwards everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch and an opportunity to meet old friends.
St Andrew’s still plays an active role in the local community and in addition to offering Church Services every Sunday, its premises are used by many organisations such as keep fit classes, dancing classes, bridge, French classes, Brownies and Rainbows and a monthly film club.
