CHARITY CHAMPION: Bushey driving instructor skydives for NSPCC and Childline

Published on: 25th October 2024   |   By: The Newsdesk   |   Category: Uncategorized

An award-winning driving instructor from Bushey has completed a phenomenal skydive to raise money for NSPCC and Childline.

Every two years, Alison Saggars undertakes a big fundraiser in order to raise money for a range of charities.

Previously, she has completed a moonwalk, which is a walk that takes place at night, for Breast Cancer and zoomed on Velocity, the fastest zipwire in the world, for Multiple Sclerosis.

She also abseiled from the ArcelorMittal Orbit structure in aid of MND.

This year, the community champion wanted to complete one of her biggest challenges yet – jumping out of an aeroplane 10,000ft in the air.

Speaking to Bushey News before taking off, Alison shared: “I am trying not to think about it too much. It is occupying my mind at the moment. The thing to do is just to go and enjoy it.”

Luckily for Alison, two of her children have previously completed a skydive and could give her tips.

On Wednesday, October 9, the day came for Alison to take the leap.

She shared: “It’s like a blur. It was amazing. The view was fantastic; you could see all around and it was really exhilarating.”

She also thanked her supporters, adding: “I am extremely grateful for all the support I have received from family and friends for all of the challenges. Special mention should go to the parishioners of Sacred Heart Church in Bushey who are always very generous.”

Alison is already a familiar face to new drivers in the area, as when she is on the ground she works as a driving instructor. Earlier this year, she won Gold Driving Instructor of the Year in the east of England out of 100,000 entrants.
