Yesterday (Tuesday, September 13) evening, the coffin of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was flown from Edinburgh to RAF Northolt in Ruislip, after which it was then taken to Buckingham Palace in London for the final time.
Today, it has been waiting there to be driven to Westminster Hall as part of a ceremonial procession, where the Queen shall then lie in state for four days, allowing members of the public to pay their respects to the recently departed monarch, until the funeral service on Monday, September 19.
The coffin was accompanied by the Queen’s only daughter, Princess Anne, for the entirety of the flight.
After touching down at Northolt, the coffin was carried by the Bearer Party and Guard of Honour, formed by The Queen’s Colour Squadron (63 Squadron RAF Regiment), who conveyed it to the Royal Hearse.
The guard then presented arms on the coffin, until the hearse began its journey to Buckingham Palace, following a route starting with the A40.
Many people gathered on roads and outside the base to see the hearse go by and pay their respects to the monarch, who died on Thursday at the age of 96.
