CAREER CRIMINAL: Man jailed for attempted thefts in St Albans four days after being released from prison

A man was sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment for two attempted thefts in St Albans – just four days after being released from prison.

Murray Bierman, 46, from the Cottonmill area of St Albans, admitted two attempted non-dwelling burglaries at Hatfield Remand Court on Saturday, July 19.

He was wanted for a garage burglary at an address in The Limes on Tuesday, June 24, this year. The court heard how he was chased out of a garage with a broom when the occupant spotted him on his mobile doorcam. He left empty-handed.

But just four days after being released from prison, he gained entry to a shed in Monks Close on Friday, July 18. Again, he left empty-handed.

He received two weeks imprisonment for each non-dwelling burglary.

He also admitted vehicle interference where he was caught on camera trying the door handle of a Mini parked in Faircross on June 26. He also stole a parcel from an address in Latimore Road on April 17 and he was in possession of cocaine when he was arrested in Cottonmill. Bierman was ordered to pay compensation to the victim for the theft offence and the drugs will be destroyed.

Detective Sergeant Jules Waylett said: “Bierman is well-known in St Albans. He is a career criminal who has been in and out of prison and he tried to steal again just days after being released from prison.  He has been offered support multiple times from partner agencies but has refused help.”

She added: “Many homeowners in the St Albans district have doorbell cameras which is great evidence for us in investigating crimes and helps us bring offenders before the court.  As part of Operation Guardian, our neighbourhood policing teams and response colleagues are making St Albans a hostile place for criminals to operate with increased visibility and covert patrols.”
