Last month, the sudden introduction of parking charges came into force at Bridgewater Surgeries in Watford, leaving many, including staff and patients, unhappy.
The new charges meant that patients would have to pay £1 to park for up to one hour and £3 for up to two hours. People were allegedly not informed of these changes beforehand.
Due to the outrage, a petition was swiftly launched by campaigner Emil Rowe, who worked alongside the Liberal Democrats to call for the charges to be removed. Within a few days, over 100 patients had signed the petition.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “The number of residents who signed our petition calling for this reversal and contacted me shows just how concerned people were, especially for our most vulnerable patients.”
Since then, the free hour of parking, which had previously been offered, has been restored.
A spokesperson for Bridgewater Surgeries said: “We are delighted to announce that [the Estates Management Company] have agreed to restore the one-hour free parking.”
