A Radlett schoolboy has received a letter from Her Majesty Queen Camilla commending him for his efforts to ensure children have free access to books.
Reuben Colton, 11, who previously featured in Radlett News after organising a major donation of books to a primary school in Berkhamsted, has now received royal recognition for his work.
As part of an assignment set over the summer holidays by Jane Broadis, head of English at Edge Grove School, all pupils were asked to take on their own personal summer writing challenge.
Reuben decided to write to the Queen as she is a patron of The National Literacy Trust. In his letter, he wrote about his Blooms for Books initiative, which he has organised alongside his sister, Ava. The project raises money to help grow school libraries across the country. He also wrote about his recent interview on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme.
What he didn’t expect was a response from Her Majesty herself.
The Queen’s reply read: “Dear Reuben, thank you very much for writing to me about your incredible achievements – what a brilliant boy you are!
“I do hope that you are proud of yourself. Sadly, I missed you on the Today programme, but I am quite sure that you were a truly inspiring guest on the show!”
Rachel, Reuben’s mother, said her son was “thrilled” with the reply.
