Rickmansworth Library will not reopen until 2026, according to the Leader of Three Rivers District Council (TRDC).
The library has been closed since a fire in April 2024 caused serious damage to the building, requiring the entire roof to be replaced.
Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) confirmed to Ricky News in July that the roof repairs had been completed, but further works were required to restore the areas damaged by the fire.
Now, councillor Stephen Giles-Medhurst has reported that there have been delays due to the complexities of the insurance claim and the need to replace the heating systems. He said that this means the library will not reopen until sometime in 2026.
A spokesperson for HCC said: “We apologise for any inconvenience. We are working hard to get the library back open as soon as possible. Once we have a better idea of when we might be able to reopen Rickmansworth Library, we will communicate this to users. In the meantime, we are providing a limited service and some activities from 1st Rickmansworth Scout Headquarters at 32 Ebury Way.”
