A consultation into potential changes to Council Tax Support (CTS) for residents across Harrow, including those in Stanmore, is now open.
The consultation, launched by Harrow Council, details proposed changes to who receives CTS.
The consultation is open until Sunday, October 27, with residents able to give feedback online or via a paper survey.
The changes could mean that a third of all current claimants, which totals 12,800 across the borough, would need to pay more towards their council tax.
The council has assured that almost all those deemed vulnerable under the scheme would not receive less if the changes were agreed.
This comes as Harrow Council faces a £15.3million gap in finances over the next three years. With CTS costing £19million a year, the proposals could save £1.3million towards the overall budget gap.
Councillor David Ashton, cabinet member for finance, said: “We cannot stress enough that this is a consultation. No decision has been made. It is important we ask the difficult questions now so that if we need to make savings from next April, we have all the information we need.”
Councillors will decide on whether any changes will be made in mid-December.
For more details and to take part in the survey, please go to www.talk.harrow.gov.uk/cts or call 020 8863 5611 to request a paper survey sent through the post.
