Clarendon Lodge in Rickmansworth was filled with song and celebration as much-loved resident Kay (Katie) Francis marked her 101st birthday surrounded by family, friends and staff.
Born and raised in Croxley, Kay was the youngest of seven siblings. After leaving school, she worked at John Dickinson’s Paper Mill. She married Les at New Road Methodist Church, celebrating afterwards in the Dickinson’s Guildhall.
Known for her love of dancing at the old Red Cross Centre, Kay has always had a lively spirit and sharp wit. At 99, she penned a charming poem reflecting on her remarkable longevity.
Kay has lived at Clarendon Lodge since March 2024. Her 101st birthday began with a visit to the hair salon before enjoying a private lunch with her son and daughter-in-law. Later, the Activities Team transformed the Cypress Lounge into a party venue with banners, balloons and a birthday quiz.
Home manger Louise Keegan said: “We were delighted to celebrate Kay’s incredible 101st birthday – she’s such a cherished part of our community. Milestones like this bring joy to everyone here.”
