A young Chorleywood resident who became a YouTube star after her positivity videos went viral has become the face of a new charity campaign.
Ten-year-old Betsy Griffin was chosen as one of four people to feature in Brain Tumour Research’s annual ‘Wear a Hat’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the disease and funds for research.
Betsy, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour at age two, could be seen on the back of buses and on digital display screens across the country.
Following her diagnosis, Betsy underwent 18 months of gruelling chemotherapy and subsequent ongoing targeted treatment. The inoperable tumour has left her visually impaired.
Betsy’s YouTube channel, Betsy’s Positive Videos, went viral during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
She has also published a book on positivity, Out of the Woods, with a foreword written by Fearne Cotton, and was awarded the MyLocalHero award in 2022.
Her inspirational story and bubbly energy has seen her also appear on various TV programmes, including Sky News and This Morning.
Speaking about the campaign, Betsy’s mother Rochelle said: “It was an honour for Betsy to be asked to take part in this campaign in the same year the charity celebrates its 15th anniversary.
“It’s been heartbreaking watching everything Betsy’s had to go through, but she never ceases to amaze us with her positive attitude and strength of character.
“We think she’s a really inspirational girl and hope her poster inspires others.”
