BLOOMING LOVELY: Annual horticultural show launch party takes place in Ruislip

The ever-popular Hillingdon in Bloom (HIB) event was launched at a special event in Ruislip last month.

As the borough council’s annual gardening competition, it encourages people across Hillingdon to show off their green thumbs, with categories including best residential garden display, best hanging basket and more.

To celebrate the opening of entries, a launch party was hosted by Mayor of Hillingdon, councillor Shehryar Ahmad-Wallana, at the Grade II listed Great Barn on Manor Farm.

Alongside HIB, entries for the council’s Autumn Show, which gives out prizes for the best produce displayed on the day, also opened, with it set to take place at the barn on Saturday, September 14.

For 2024, the council is hoping to broaden the range of entrants to include more first-time competitors, bringing with them new energy and ideas to the shows.

Last year’s winner of the best novelty garden category at HIB, Maxine Coleman, said: “People should enter, there’s absolutely nothing to lose! It doesn’t cost anything to enter and you may win a prize.”
