According to a Rickmansworth taekwondo instructor, the majority of his students who earned their black belts this April have been training in the village since they were four years old.

A grand total of 19 students from Rickmansworth, Northwood and Harrow were promoted at an event held at the Hellidon Lakes Hotel in Daventry in April.

Instructor Justin Kirman, who lives in Rickmansworth, said: “This is the 25th year that I’ve taught taekwondo in Rickmansworth and it’s the biggest number of successful black belt gradings I’ve ever seen!”

Promoted to the ranking of 1st dan this year were Florence, Saavan, Cian, Lyla, Melody and Jane, whilst Emily, Emma, Euphrosyne, Andreas and Scarlett were promoted to 2nd dan. Finally, Charlotte and Lorcan were promoted to 1st dan 1st star.

Looking forward, some of Justin’s students will be performing at a Scouts demonstration at Lees Wood on June 15. Others will be presenting the martial art at Croxley Revels on June 22.
