BIG MOVE: Amersham and Flackwell Heath college campuses could be relocated to High Wycombe

Housing could be provided on two college campuses, as plans to merge them into a single new campus can be finished in two years.

The plans to construct two colleges – Amersham and Flackwell Heath – into a modern, purpose-built campus in the heart of Wycombe for technical, professional, and vocational skills, education, and training.

Although the Buckinghamshire College Group’s (BCG) plans are still in the early stages, they have agreed to purchase neighboring plots on Oxford Road and Brook Street for the new campus.

The plans are still dependent on getting planning approval and the College generating the required funds to finish the project.

If the proposals go forward, the College will be able to shift the activities that are now provided at Amersham and Flackwell Heath to the new site. At the earliest, this would be in the autumn of 2024.

Following a review of the state and usage of its current campuses in the south of the county at Amersham and Flackwell Heath, the College has been working with Buckinghamshire Council, Buckinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), and numerous other partners. According to demographic research, the demand for college spaces in Amersham and Chesham is falling, whereas it is rapidly increasing in High Wycombe.

A spokesperson for the college said: “Every year they have a thriving community of more than 5,000 students across the estate who deserve the very best facilities to provide, in the locations where they need them, and which enable them to get the very best standards of teaching, learning, and training.

“We have a Big Bucks ambition to provide inclusive vocational, technical and professional skills education and training that is high quality, cost effective and provides progression into employment, apprenticeships, further and higher education. To achieve this ambition our business plan is to invest in providing the best industry standard learning spaces, facilities, resources, and technology possible using resources wisely, efficiently, and effectively to build a sustainable future.”
