BELSTONE MOVERS: Ghanaian footballers don new kits thanks to volunteer coach

A former striker at Belstone FC has organised for last season’s 1st team shirts to be donated to a Ghanaian squad in need of kit.

Every few years, George Bramble visits Ghana to volunteer as an English teacher and football coach. Last June, he travelled to the town of Ashongman, where he helps to coach local side Movers FC.

Upon joining the club, George discovered that many of the players didn’t have football boots, shinpads or much in the way of kit. Alongside buying the young players their own boots, George organised for Belstone’s old 1st team kits to be shipped to Ashongman.

As a token of gratitude, Movers FC have now applied to their league for a change of name and are now formally known as Belstone Movers FC.

George, writing in an email to founding member of Belstone FC Glynne Cherrington, said: “Movers FC is made up of local lads and their manager is a college teacher. One of our games was against a local academy team who beat us 3-2. However, four of our boys were selected for trials with the academy! I will update you on the outcome.

“They’ve got some real talent here. What they can do in just flip-flops and sliders is beyond belief.”

George joined Belstone’s 1st team in the 1980s and has been involved with the club ever since. He hopes that the future might manifest further collaborations with the Ghanaian contingent of the Belstone team.
