A church in Stanmore is looking for new members to join its team of bell ringers.
Anyone is welcome to come along to bell ringing practice at St John’s Church from 8pm to 9.30pm on Thursdays.
The church currently has nine bell ringers, but unfortunately the group is often too small to ring the bells regularly before a Sunday service.
As part of the induction, the church’s tower master will provide new members with further information about the church, as well as a history of the bells.
Tower master Shaun Knevett said: “New members will get a very positive welcome.
“I would introduce all newcomers to the group and give a guided tour of the tower, show them the bells and clock workings and explain how the bells work. They can try ringing the practice bell in a safe environment, with one of us standing in front of them to help them and show how it is done.
“It is practice that makes perfect and I would demonstrate and explain how the bells work and teach them the art of campanology.”
