GREEN GIRLS: Evergreen Girls complete historic league and cup double

Published on: 6th June 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

An Abbots Langley girls’ football team has capped a history-making season by winning the Hertfordshire Girls Senior League Cup, to add to the Division One title they clinched the previous week.

Evergreen Falcons U14s girls, known as the Green Girls, completed the famous double by beating Welwyn Garden City 5-0.

A week earlier, the Falcons had secured the Herts Division One title. They became the first-ever Evergreen girls’ team to win the top division, with victories over title rivals Chesham and Hitchin. A 7-1 win over Chorleywood added to the celebrations at South Way, completing the Falcons’ rise from a Division Three team to the best side in the county.

Falcons head coach Ian Roberts said: “It’s been a fantastic season for all the girls, the coaches and the parents. The Hertfordshire Girls League is one of the strongest in the whole of the country, so to sit proudly at the top of the tree is a huge achievement.

“Credit must also go to Claire Hendry, who started the girls set-up here nine years ago, and to the other players who have the worn the shirt over the years as we climbed through the leagues to the top of Division One.”

Four of the girls who played in the final – Ciara McGrath, Abi Wrightson, Omi Moran, and Ella Roberts – were part of the original team to have played in the Falcons’ first competitive fixture in September 2018.

Evergreen Girls are looking for players of all ages. To find out more, please get in touch via email at football@evergreenfootballclub.com
