Two Berkhamsted school cricket teams have proven themselves to be the best in all of Hertfordshire as they competed in the county final on Thursday, June 29.
Jovially referred to as ‘the battle of Berkhamsted’, the Under 13s Girls County Cricket final took place at Berkhamsted Cricket Club (BCC) and was contested by Berkhamsted School and Ashlyns School.
Berkhamsted were first to bat, with a “tenacious innings” from Bella Seddon leading them to a score of 111 and helping them to their eventual win.
Umpiring the game was Mark Lewarne, head of junior cricket at BCC, who said: “Berkhamsted took early wickets and never looked back – wickets fell regularly, with Bella Seddon and Lola Harman taking four wickets each. Ashlyns were bowled out for 51 despite a brilliant innings by Daisy Turnham, who carried her bat through the innings.
“Girls’ cricket in Berkhamsted has been growing in popularity and is currently stronger than ever, illustrated by the fact that both Berkhamsted School and Ashlyns School made it through to the final. This was a high-quality game of cricket and a great advert for schools in Berkhamsted.”
A spokesperson for Berkhamsted School said: “A fantastic game with wonderful cricket on show. Thanks Ashlyns for a wonderful final.”
A spokesperson for Ashlyns said: “Congratulations to our girls for making it to the final; you should all be so proud of yourselves.”
