BALD MOVE: Mayor prepares to brave the shave to raise funds for charity

Published on: 22nd January 2024   |   By: Annabel Stock   |   Category: Uncategorized

The Mayor of Hertsmere is braving the shave to raise funds for a local charity.

Mayor councillor Chris Myers will be shaving off his hair in aid of his mayoral charity, ADD-vance, a Hertfordshire-based charity which supports families affected by ADHD, autism or related conditions.

Mayor Myers was inspired to make this bold move when he was contacted by the admins of a social media account called Male Political Haircuts. This humorous page posts photos of male politicians and local councillors before and after their haircuts alongside a witty quip.

When the admins got in touch to suggest that Mayor Myers brave the shave, he decided to run with the idea. This comes amidst a range of other activities the Mayor is undertaking to raise funds for charity, including a football event at Emirates Stadium, a curry night, and a quiz.

Together with his partner and fellow councillor, Christian Gray, Mayor Myers can also be found dressing up as Father Christmas and the Easter bunny, going from door to door to surprise local children.

Speaking of the shave, which will take place on January 31, Mayor Myers said: “I don’t feel very apprehensive as this isn’t the first time I have braved the shave. Like many other men during the pandemic, I got so fed up of hair growing out of control while barbers were shut that I eventually got rid of it all.

“What I’m a little bit apprehensive about is going beardless. If I reach my target of £1,000, I will shave off my beard too and I haven’t been beardless for a very long time – I might end up looking egg-like!”

The Mayor will brave the shave live on his Facebook page. You can donate to the cause via Mayor Myers’ Justgiving page at www.bitly.ws/39QbL
